Cheryl Baker, Moravian Star Maker
Maker of Hand-folded Paper Moravian Stars
Bethlehem, PA
At a school in Niesky, Germany, boys were taught to make a many-pointed star as part of a math lesson. This “Moravian Star” has now become synonymous with how the Moravians celebrate the importance of the Christmas season and the light it brings.
As a student at Moravian College, now Moravian University, I bought a star making kit at the Moravian Book Shop and taught myself. I have been making them now for more than 40 years! I have given them as wedding, Christmas, and birthday gifts, made them for baby and wedding showers, created mobiles, and hung them on trees and displayed them in vases and bowls. For years my friends encouraged me to take the leap and create a business with them! I hope my stars bring you a ray of light and hope in a weary world.
You can find my stars at local fairs and festivals throughout the year, as well as the following locations:
Kaleidoscope Collective at 77 W. Broad St., 12C, Bethlehem, PA 18018
Paisley Sun, 558 Main St., Bethlehem, PA 18018
